I weighed 244 pounds on November 22, 1999, and decided to do something about my weight problem. I went to my friendly Barnes and Nobles Bookstore and purchased the latest diet books including, “The Atkins Diet,” “Sugar Busters,” and “Protein Power.” I was familiar with the work of Dr. Dean Ornish, who advocates a low fat, high carbohydrate, generally vegetarian diet. Though these programs work for many people, I found them contradictory, confusing, and difficult to follow. I decided to design my own program.
